Welcome to the United Church of Sun City
Our chancel choir has approximately 10 to 20 singers, depending on the time of year, and our anthems vary from classical through contemporary in style.
The mission of our program is to provide music that enhances the liturgy and enables our congregation to pray twice through the music. When our organist first came she told our minister of music that her job was to "take the congregation to the throne of God every week."
View recorded musical offerings on our Worship Page.
Minister of Music Alan Paulson brings over 40 years of successful music director experience in Christian Churches, public schools, performance choirs and community colleges to our Church. Alan earned his Masters in Choral Music Conducting at ASU and continues expanding his trade by taking courses to maintain his certifications.
June is bustin’ out like a blast from a 700 degree pizza oven! (Not quite, thank God!)
Happy JUNE from your Music Ministry! This is when our Choir begins its summer hiatus and our dedicated PRAISE TEAM takes over until the first Sunday in October. That means that for most Sunday worship services, we will have Kira Funk on soprano, Brenda Goodenberger on alto, Michael Nanney on tenor, and me, Alan Paulson, singing bass. Plus of course, Beverly Fletcher holding us all together with the piano accompaniment, and Floyd Ellison, sharing his very expressive, worshipful piano solos each Sunday to help share the load of music to be prepared.
Having said that, we will already have a special guest tenor on June 7 while Michael is visiting family in Texas. Pray for safe travel for Michael and his nephews, Larry and Michael. Our special guest tenor that day will be one of our favorite guests, Miguel Jackson, singing a solo, plus three songs with the Praise Team!
AND, of course, our dear Kira’s baby is due in September, so she’ll probably take some time off to not sleep for a month or five! Please continue praying for Kira, Jacob and baby Evangeline!
If you noticed that I was missing on Sunday, May 24, I was traveling with the Sounds of the Southwest Singers, including our videographer, Greg Yagi, to rehearse, then sing at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and at the opening of the Memorial Day parade in Washington DC, celebrating our nation’s 250th birthday! I LOVE PATRIOTIC MUSIC - so this was an absolute bucket list trip!
The Sounds of the Southwest Singers will be presenting a very enjoyable Christmas Concert at our Church on December 6th!
Please don’t be shy about texting me or calling the office about hymns you’d like to sing or anthems you’d like to hear from our Praise Team!
Thank you to everyone who stays to take on the Valley summer with us, and thank you everyone who expresses such kind words about our MUSIC and the entire worship experience at United Church of Sun City!
In His Glory,
Alan Paulson
Minister of Music
